Muse, Stancil & Co. (Muse) specializes in the technical and economic assessment of energy-related issues. Formed in 1984, the firm is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, with offices located in Houston, Texas; London, England; and Singapore.
Our consultants are primarily chemical engineers with an average of 30 years of experience in such areas as petroleum refining, petrochemicals, natural gas processing, electric power, and the marketing and transportation of crude petroleum products, natural gas, and natural gas liquids. The technical experience of our professionals incorporates nearly every aspect of the midstream and downstream energy sectors including process engineering; economic planning and scheduling; refinery and gas plant operations; feedstock and fuel valuation; feasibility analysis; project development; and project management.
In addition to strong technical skills, our consultants have extensive commercial knowledge and understanding of business drivers. We are frequently retained to advise clients in negotiations and transactions as well as to complete due diligence services for mergers and acquisitions. Most consultants have prior operating company experience in crude and product marketing, project evaluation, long-term corporate strategic planning, and/or new product development.

Tom Muse Chairman Emeritus
Tom Muse has over 40 years of experience in developing projects in the petroleum process industry. He has been instrumental in creating and implementing companies and joint ventures to develop and operate plants, pipelines, and marketing activities. He has advised many companies and institutions throughout the world.
Tom began his career with Arkla Gas Company where he was involved in project evaluation and operations management. Subsequently at Placid Oil Company, he was responsible for developing and managing joint ventures and processing projects. In 1968, he became a consultant for Purvin & Gertz, Inc.
In January 1984, Tom co-founded Muse, Stancil & Co. to provide premier energy consulting services and to create equity holding companies in operating start-up ventures. He has been a director or chief executive officer of numerous operating companies.
Neil Earnest Chairman – Board of Directors
Neil Earnest is the Chairman – Board of Directors and a Director of Muse with over 30 years of industry experience. As a consultant, he has worked on a broad range of assignments in the downstream sector around the world. In addition to his industry consulting engagements, Neil has provided expert testimony in international and domestic arbitration, U.S. Federal court, U.S. state court, and the English High Court of Justice. He has also provided extensive expert testimony in regulatory proceedings in front of the National Energy Board of Canada, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and U.S. state regulatory agencies.
Prior to joining Muse in 1991, Neil was with Phillips Petroleum Company for 11 years in a variety of refinery and headquarters positions. Neil holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University and an M.B.A. from University of Houston – Clearlake. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas.
John Renwick Chief Executive Officer
John Renwick is the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Muse and manages the Asset Performance Practice Area. He has 30 years of experience in the refining and marketing sector worldwide. John joined Muse in 1999 and has applied his strong technical, operations, and economic understanding of the business in assisting clients in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. His broad range of engagements has included: refinery operations analysis, asset valuations, project evaluations, market studies, and refinery competitive analysis. John is adept in the construction and use of LP models to facilitate complex refinery valuations, project development, operations analysis, and operations planning and execution.
Prior to joining Muse, John worked 14 years for Imperial Oil where he held a variety of positions in their downstream organization in refinery operations, refining and supply economics. His responsibilities, while seconded to Exxon, included supply operations coordination of Exxon facilities worldwide, and corporate planning functions. John holds a B.S. degree in Engineering.
Tod McGreevy President
Tod McGreevy is a President and Director of Muse with over 30 years of industry experience. As a consultant, Tod has worked on a broad range of assignments in the downstream sector around the world. Many of his assignments have focused on refining economics, market analysis, and business strategy.
Prior to joining Muse in 2003, Tod worked for several U.S. refining and marketing companies including Fletcher Oil and Refining, Phibro USA, Lyondell – Citgo Refining, and El Paso Merchant Energy. Tod holds B.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from the University of Connecticut.
Kirk Moser Vice President
Mr. Moser is a Vice President and Director at Muse, Stancil & Co. (“Muse”), and has 22 years of financial, operational, and consulting experience in petroleum refining, natural gas processing, and pipeline operations. A variety of assignments have focused on asset valuation, price forecast and modeling, feedstock and product studies, and business strategy. Prior to joining Muse in 2008, he worked for Exxon Mobil Corporation, holding positions within controllers, financial reporting, and internal audit. He holds a B.B.A. degree in finance from the University of Oklahoma and an M.B.A. degree in finance and strategy from Southern Methodist University. He is an Accredited Member – Business Valuation with the American Society of Appraisers. He also currently serves as a board member for North Texas Gas Processors Association.
